Even though we only knew each other a short
period of time we knew we were meant to be
together. We had begun discussing marriage
within just a few months of our courtship; however, we
thought it would be best to wait just a little longer
and be sure to get the blessing of both of our
parents. Due to the fact we live closer to Tom
and Lois we were able to spend many Sunday dinners
with them, which allowed us all to get to know each
other.
When we decided
the time had come we scheduled a trip to visit Bob and
Pam in Parkersburg, West Virginia. We arrived on
Friday night and spent the evening talking and getting
to know each other. On Saturday, Pam made
reservations for a dinner cruise on the Ohio
River. What a perfect opportunity to make our
announcement. It was pouring rain when we
boarded the cruise, but with all of the excitement
neither one of us really cared.
As people were being
seated in the dining area, Derek got down on one knee
and slipped the beautiful ring on my finger.
Tears welled up in my eyes as he said, "I love you and
I want to spend the rest of my life with you." I
happily said, "Yes!" We made it official with a
kiss.
After dinner, we walked
to the upper deck to watch a comedian/magician as we
cruised down the river. The rain had stopped and
we enjoyed the rest of the
evening. |
